Plica Syndrome
A small area of the knee is called the plica, and it can be the source for knee pain.
What is Plica Syndrome?
Plica Syndrome is characterized by the inflammation and swelling of the synovial cavity which is present in between the joints, which results in the irritation of the muscles of the knee. During the second trimester of fetal development, this plica (a fold in the thin tissue that lines the knee joint) normally shrinks by itself. However in some individuals it becomes more prominent and prone to infection.
