Poor Hip Core

When people talk about their 'core muscles', they are usually talking about their abdominal and back muscles, both of which are important in building the body's stability, as well as improving back pain and sporting performance. However, another set of muscles are also important in having good control throughout the hips, which is important for everyday movement and mobility. 

What is Poor Hip Core?

Like many people having trouble 'switching on' their abdominal core muscles due to previous back pain, pregnancy or sports injuries, this can also occur with deep hip muscles, or 'deep hip stabilisers'. These muscles can 'turn off' due to pain or injury, and it can take a long time to 'switch on' again. This can lead to problems with pain in the leg and hip, and the body will adjust accordingly by tilting the pelvis and hip.

Signs and Symptoms of Poor Hip Core

Some symptoms of Poor Hip Core include:

  • muscle fatigue, knots and tightness in the back, hips and upper legs
  • poor back and pelvic posture

If the problem persists, and is left untreated, the following can occur

  • Hip injuries or conditions, such as trochanteric bursitis
  • Groin pain
  • Collapsing hip
  • Joint strain
  • Arthrtis in hip, knee or ankle

Causes of Poor Hip Core

Poor Hip Core is usually caused by poor hip control due to past injuries or pain.
