Groin Strain
A Groin Strain, or Groin Pull, occurs when there is too much stress on the muscles in the thigh and groin, leading to them getting over-stretched or torn if the muscles tense too forcefully or suddenly.
What is a Groin Strain?
On the inner side of the thigh are the adductor muscles, which run from the thigh up to the groin or hip. A Groin Strain is an injury or tear to these muscles.
There are three degrees of severity for groin strain:
- 1st Degree - mild pain, little loss of strength or movement
- 2nd Degree - moderate pain, mild-moderate strength loss, some tissue damage
- 3rd Degree - severe pain, severe loss of strength and function, complete tear of the muscle

Groin Strain is common in both professional and recreational athletes, especially in sports that involve a lot of running and/or jumping. In fact, a likely cause is a sudden jump or change in direction or kicking, which is why they often occur in an athlete's dominant leg.
While sport is the most common cause of Groin Pull, they can also occur due to a fall, lifting heavy objects, or resistance training.
