Corked Thigh
A Corked Thigh (also known as 'Quadriceps Contusion', 'Charleys Horse' or 'Dead Leg') is the result of a direct blow to the thigh, and the muscle tissue is crushed against the underlying bone.
What is a Corked Thigh?
A severe impact to the thigh muscle can compress the hard surface of the femur (thigh bone) to the muscle. This in turn can cause a deep rupture to the muscle tissue and haemorrhage can occur, followed by inflammation. This injury is called a Corked Thigh.
It is important to treat a Corked Thigh, as left untreated, it can turn into Myositis Ossificans, where calcification occurs in the healing hematoma.
