Causes of Metatarsalgia
The most frequent cause of metatarsalgia is participating in sports activities that put pressure on the metatarsal bones at the front of your foot. These activities, such as running, often lead to overuse of the area. Other causes include:
- Ill-fitting shoes
- High heels or runners without adequate arch support or padding
- Foot abnormalities, such as bunions or hammer toe
- Obesity
- Conditions such as gout, bursitis, arthritis, Mortons Neuroma and Stress Fractures
