Foot Muscle Tendinopathy is a condition where pain emanates from one of the main tendons in the foot, the Flexor Hallucis Longus (FHL).
What is Foot Muscle Tendinopathy?
Foot Muscle Tendinopathy is a condition where inflammation or swelling occurs to the sheath through which the FHL tendon passes. The pain is usually in one of three areas:
- The back of the ankle
- Under your mid-foot
- Under the base of your big toe

Causes of Foot Muscle Tendinopathy
Foot Muscle Tendinopathy is an overload or overuse injury, and occur due to activities such as running, hopping, jumping or rising onto the toes. Other risk factors include:
- Poor foot or ankle control
- Tight or weak musculature in the foot and leg
- Incorrect training technique
- Previous injury
- Fatigue
- Inadequate warm up/cool down
