Wrist Fractures
There are a few different types of wrist fractures. While these are mainly treated in a hospital, there is preventative and rehabilitation care that can be achieved at Motion Health Centre.
Definition of Wrist Fractures
There are different types of wrist fractures, dependent on where the fracture occurred, and also the severity of the fracture. The distal radius fracture, or Colles' Fracture, is one of the more common types of wrist fracture, as it is a break in the larger bone of your forearm near your wrist. Other common types of wrist fractures include navicular or scaphoid fractures (one of the larger carpal bones in the wrist), and ulnar fractures.
These can in turn be categorized into displaced or non-displaced fractures; this is where the bone fragments either line up or are out of their normal position.
Another way of categorization is the following: open fractures (for bone fractures that pierce the skin); comminuted fracture (where the bone broke into more than 2 pieces); intra-articular fracture (if the bone broke into the wrist joint) and extra-articular fracture (where the wrist joint is not affected).
