Trigger Finger and Trigger Thumb
Trigger Finger and Trigger Thumb is a condition where your fingers and/or thumb will catch or lock into position when you try to bend them.
Definition of Trigger Finger and Trigger Thumb
The tendons in the finger and thumb go through tunnels called 'tendon sheaths'. Along these sheaths are 'pulleys', which hold the flexor tendons close to the finger bone, and the pulley at the base of the finger is called the A1 pulley.
In Trigger Finger and Trigger Thumb, the A1 pulley becomes inflamed or thickened, and it makes it harder for the tendon to move through the sheath as the finger bends. Over time, nodules may form, further impeding movement, and thus creating a catching or popping motion as the finger moves.
