Signs and Symptoms of Medial Epicondylosis (Golfers Elbow)

Classic symptoms of medial epicondylosis are:

  • tenderness and pain along the inner aspect of elbow joint
  • tingling or numbness in the fingers
  • weakness of grip
  • loss of motor strength

Causes of Medial Epicondylosis (Golfers Elbow)

Medial Epicondylosis is the result of persistent stress and micro-trauma that elicits inflammatory response in the tendons and muscles of forearm. In poorly managed cases, the process of inflammatory degeneration may be severe and irreversible.

This condition is frequently reported in individuals who perform repetitive activities at the level of wrist joint, such as repetitive flexing, gripping or swinging. Certain sports activities and occupations that use this movement tend to have a higher risk of medial epicondylosis (golfer’s elbow), such as golf, rowing, weightlifting, painting or carpentry.

Statistics and Epidemiology related to Medial Epicondylosis (Golfers Elbow)

Based on latest estimates, the prevalence of medial epicondylosis in general population is anywhere between 0.3 to 0.5%; however, prevalence is much higher in individuals who are actively involved in risky lifestyle and habits.
