Scheuermann's Disease
Scheuermann's Disease, also popularly referred to as Scheuermann’s Kyphosis, happens when the vertebrae have a different shape. Instead of being rectangular, the vertebrae have a wedge shape. The wedge-shaped bones curve forward, making the spine look rounded.
What is Scheuermann's Disease?
Scheuermann's Disease is a spinal deformity that is characterized by a substantial increase in the humpback of upper spine (also known as hunchback or roundback) due to uneven growth of vertebral column in relation to sagittal plane of the body.
This deformity is more frequently reported in adolescents due to developmental abnormalities at the level of vertebral endplates, leading to the classic wedging appearance of the back on radiological scan.
