BPPV - Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
BPPV - Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is a condition characterised by episodes of sudden and severe vertigo (dizziness) when your head moved around. Common triggers of your vertigo or dizziness include rolling over in bed, getting out of bed, and lifting your head to look up.
What is BPPV - Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo?
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo occurs when small calcium crystals, known as otoconia, in the utricle (one of the vestibular organs in the inner ear) detach and land in one of the semi-circular canals of the inner ear. The canals may then send the wrong signals about your motion, position and sense of balance to the brain, especially when the crystals move. This confuses the brain and leads to BPPV.
As the name suggests, BPPV - Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo is a disorder where a patient may experience dizzy spells that aren't life-threatening, tend to last for a short time, and is triggered with certain movements or postures of the head.

Signs and Symptoms of BPPV - Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
BPPV tends to come and go for no apparent reason. An affected person may have vertigo attacks for a few weeks, then a period with no dizziness symptoms at all.
Symptoms of BPPV include:
Causes of BPPV - Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
Anything that dislodges the otoconia from the utricle can cause BPPV . Having a past head injury is a major cause. Other times, BPPV may result from other problems with the vestibular system, including Ménière disease or vestibular neuritis. Ear surgery is a less common cause. In most cases, no one knows exactly what causes BPPV.
